What do you do professionally?

I am a book coach and editor. In 2022 I founded The Open Book Company where we believe you don’t need a major book deal or a spot on a global stage to have a story worth telling.

What do you want to do (professionally and/or personally)?

I love my work and feel truly grateful to live out my purpose by helping others tell their stories. On the personal front, I’d like to improve my Spanish language skills and learn how to play the piano!

Do you have any passion projects or ideas you want to explore?

My passion projects at the moment involve mostly fictional writing. I also took a wonderful fiber arts class at Creative+ and it inspired me to want to explore knitting, crochet, and other fiber arts projects, too.

Who inspires you? Why?

Anyone who is not afraid to speak their mind. It feels a little cheesy to say, but I truly believe that by living in our own authenticity and speaking our own individual truths, we can change the world.

Hobbies / Interests / Things that bring you joy:

Reading, journaling, protesting, exploring new places, truth-telling, cooking/baking, karaoke with my kiddo, liberation for all people, live theater, a good binge watch.

Greatest accomplishments:

Launching my own business and various community organizing projects that I have led or participated in over the years. I try to measure “success” in ways that may fall outside of external and visible outcomes, too. Some of my greatest accomplishments have been connected to moments of humility, courage and personal growth.

Future accomplishments:

Editing and publishing my first collection of essays.

What excites you about being a Creative + Member?

I love the beautiful and peaceful workspace. As soon as I walk in the door, I feel at ease. Something about the energy in the room activates my flow. I also love meeting other local creatives and exploring new creative outlets together.

Best piece of advice you have ever been given:

A piece of advice I’ve loved is this idea of “eyes on your own paper.” I hate getting caught in the comparison game, so I appreciate the sentiment that the only person you’re competing with is yourself.

Who is someone you want to collaborate with? Why?

I want to collaborate with my kiddo! He’s 11 years old, and I think he is an incredible writer. I would love to see a creative project we could accomplish together.

Favorite quote:

The Buddhist saying: “Right now, it’s like this.” This will be my next tattoo! It’s a reminder no matter what you’re in—the amazing, the bad, the in between—that everything is temporary. It helps me keep perspective.

What does your best life look like?

A life of giving, loving, creating, connecting, being. Oh, and lots of singing and dancing.

Last words for the Creative + Community and beyond:

The Creative+ ethos centers on activating and fostering the creativity inside all of us. This comes to life within our community as we connect, relate and collaborate. I love the idea that we don’t necessarily know what will bloom from the seeds we’re planting today. But, we’re here to garden together, and that’s a beautiful thing.
