Sean Murphy

Sean Murphy’s path is anything but linear and that’s exactly what makes it inspiring. With roots in digital media and live event streaming, Sean shifted into coaching to help others build confidence, lead with intention, and stop self sabotaging behaviors along the way.

Sean will be speaking at our next Monthly Virtual Connect and co-leading our upcoming Mindful Men group (a new space for men to have thoughtful dialogue and support within the Creative + Community.)

Full Name:

Sean Murphy

What do you do professionally?

After a couple decades working in digital media and product management for audio, video, and live event streaming, I started working as a career coach in 2023. I work with individuals who want to build their confidence, leadership qualities, and avoid self sabotaging behaviors that keep them from hitting their professional goals. A few months ago I started working as a product management coach for a Human Resources company building AI products for HR practitioners.

What do you want to do (professionally and/or personally)?

Professionally, I want to continue taking risks and following pursuits that excite me. I could have never predicted the career journey I've had, so I like to stay open to any and all paths. Personally, I want to run a marathon again.

Do you have any passion projects or ideas you want to explore?

I write about personal and professional growth at Personal Sprints. I have only dipped my toes in the water, but I want to explore public speaking more as well.

Who inspires you? Why?

Anyone who builds communities, challenges the status quo, and leads with empathy.

Hobbies / Interests / Things that bring you joy:

Reading, journaling, protesting, exploring new places, truth-telling, cooking/baking, karaoke with my kiddo, liberation for all people, live theater, a good binge watch.

Greatest accomplishments:

I finished the 2022 NYC Marathon, despite getting sick with Covid 2 weeks before the race.

Future accomplishments:

Write a book. Be a public speaker.

What excites you about being a Creative + Member?

Every conversation I've had with a Creative+ member is with someone who is genuinely interested in connecting with people beyond "what do you do?".

Best piece of advice you have ever been given:

Extend your window of tolerance.

Who is someone you want to collaborate with? Why?

Morra Aarons-Mele, Brad Stulberg, and Jon Acuff are the authors and podcasters who have spoken most to me in the past couple years. I'm not sure what I would want to do for a collaboration just yet, but they represent a great cross section of mental health, performance and goal setting, and writing that I aspire to develop.

Favorite quote:

"It will be cured before you're married." My grandfather said this to my dad, my dad said it to me, and I find myself saying it to my kids for minor annoyances, cuts, scrapes, bruises, and wounded pride.

What does your best life look like?

Write, create, run, meditate, laugh, try new things and challenge myself. Repeat.

Last words for the Creative + Community and beyond:

I look forward to the next time I see you!
